Dave Gettleman is still employed as the New York Giants GM. He opened up and admitted he made mistakes in the last two seasons.
When Gettleman got the job he still believed the capability of QB Eli Manning playing at an elite level. He wanted to build around Manning.
Gettleman on The Michael Kay Show, “I thought that we could do both at the same time. And I was wrong.”
In 2018, Gettleman hired former Vikings OC Pat Shurmur as the new Giants HC, signed former Patriots LT Nate Solder to a record contract, traded for LB Alec Ogletree from the Rams, gave Odell Beckham Jr. a record contract extension, and kept Eli Manning as your starting QB.
This backfired for the Giants and for Dave Gettleman, the Giants went 5-11 on the season. Eli struggled the entire season, Beckham was traded to the Browns in the offseason, Ogletree helped the other team than he helped the Giants, and Solder did not live up to the record contract.
Now in 2019, Pat Shurmur was released from his duties as the Giants HC and now Gettleman is HC hunting.
In the last 2 years, Gettleman best moment was drafting Duke QB Daniel Jones 6th overall, who appears to be the Giants franchise starting QB for the next decade.
